Small, friendly and approachable we are always happy to listen to your initial thoughts and ideas. We will then work in partnership with you to turn those ideas into reality and create for you furniture, Shoji or a garden feature that is in harmony with your home and lifestyle.

What We Do?

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK commissioned Shades Of Japan to create Shoji screens for the recent commercial,  offering one lucky fan and a guest a once in a lifetime luxury trip to Japan. The prize includes return flights from London to Tokyo, seven nights stay at a five star hotel and the opportunity to meet the England squad. 
 

Unique and affordable workmanship and attention to detail, all our products are handmade in our own workshop and we look after both commercial and domestic clients alike.

Simplicity is said to be the hallmark of Japanese furnishings... simplicity disguising a wealth of complex craftsmanship, in effect. Both of these attributes are amply evidenced in the Andon Lamps made for me by Shades of Japan. Cheap they are not: stylishly elegant and true to their own material characters they most definitely are. To say I'm happy with Glenn's craftsmanship would be an understatement.

Is everything bespoke?

Available in the range are Bespoke Shoji doors, Shoji screens, room dividers and lighting. Our own Shoji screens are individually designed and hand made and finished using a traditional Japanese Shoji paper.
